Child Support Related to the issue of parenting time is the issue of child support. The state of Colorado has enacted guidelines that are utilized to calculate child support. Child support is based upon the parties’ combined gross incomes and thereafter adjusted based upon each party's percentage of the gross income, overnights and adjustment expenses such as work or education related day-care, health insurance premiums, extraordinary expenses such as private school and extraordinary medical expenses such as orthodontia. These adjustment expenses are divided in proportion to the parties' incomes and added to the basic child support obligation. Child support is always modifiable upon a showing of a substantial and continuing change in circumstances that results in a 10% or more change in the amount of child support pursuant to the Colorado child support guidelines. In a related area, dependency exemptions for the children can be allocated by agreement of the parties or order of the Court.
